Italy: Underwater wedding dampens previous record

Livorno, 12 June (AKI) - Italian couple Viola Francesca Colombi and Giampero Giannoccaro were flooded with love when they shared their wedding vows five metres under water off the island of Elba on Saturday. The couple were surrounded by 270 guests - enough to dampen the previous Guinness world record for underwater nuptuals.

The previous record was set in 2005 when a Californian couple invited 208 guests to celebrate their underwater wedding.

The Italian wedding was celebrated by the mayor of Capoliveri, Ruggero Barbetti, a passionate diver, near the beach of Morcone.

Colombi, 37, from Milan, and Giannoccaro, 33, from Bologna, run a diving business in nearby Porto Azzurro where they have lived for some time.
