Iraq: Nephew of former top Saddam aide arrested

Baghdad, 22 Nov. (AKI) - Iraqi security forces have arrested the nephew of a former top aide to late Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein. Qaid Shihab, nephew of Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, ex-leader of the disbanded Baath party, was seized in an operation in Salahuddin province, pan-Arab a daily al-Quds al-Arabi reported on Monday.

Shihab was arrested at his home in the al-Dour area of Salahuddin, 170 kilometres north of Baghdad, the paper said. It did not specify when.

He is accused of taking part with al-Douri in unspecified anti-government activities.

Shihab is the son of al-Douri's sister. He was arrested during the United Stated led invasion of Iraq in 2003 that toppled Saddam, but was subsequently released.
