UAE: Women's games to be held in Emirates in 2010

Dubai, 16 April (AKI) - The United Arab Emirates will host the second Gulf Cooperation Council Women's games due to take place there in March 2010. Last year, the games were held for the first time in the oil-rich emirate of Kuwait, which also chairs the GCC Women's Sports Organising Committee, UAE daily The National said.

"Adding sport to the agenda of Gulf countries is instrumental in the social development of women in the region,” said Sheikha Naima al-Sabah, president of the GCC Women’s Sports Organising Committee, quoted by The National newspaper.

Female athletes from all five GCC countries - Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait - will compete in seven sports, including Table Tennis, Taekwondo, archery, shooting and basketball.

The UAE is a federation made up of seven emirates, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm al-Quwain and Ras al-Khaimah.
