(AKI) - Iran's hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has replaced Manouchehr Mottaki with his nuclear chief and close ally Ali Akbar Salehi as a 'caretaker' foreign minister, Iran's official news agency Iran reported on Monday. Salehi is the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) and an associate professor and chancellor of Sharif University of Technology .

Ahmadinejad announced the move while Mottaki was on a visit to Senegal. in a letter, he said he appreciated Mottaki's efforts during his term and appointed Ali Akbar Salehi as the caretaker of the ministry.

A reformist website said Mottaki had been critical of Ahmadinejad's policies.

"Mottaki failed to adjust himself to the president's view points and his foreign policy," the Mardomsalari website reported.
