Rome, 5 Feb. (AKI) - Police in Rome and elsewhere in Italy on Wednesday arrested 34 people suspected of trafficking African female prostitutes, reducing individuals to slavery, drugs trafficking, money laundering and other crimes.

Police said the gang was "a dangerous criminal organisation with Nigerian links operating in the lucrative sectors of the trafficking and exploitation of human beings, drugs trafficking and the laundering of vast sums, using mafia methods,"

Authorities in the Togolese Republic had helped investigators trace the channels used by the gang to bring young African women to Italy and force them into prostitution, police said.
